TERRACOTTA BALLOON

Morocco · November 2021

About the Image
This photograph holds the memory of a spontaneous adventure shared with two very close friends during one of our short escapes together. At sunrise, the four of us lifted off over the Moroccan desert with our French pilot, Jacques, watching the landscape unfold beneath us — soft terracotta earth, distant mountains and the snow-covered Atlas on the horizon. What stayed with me most was the contrast between the vast stillness of the desert and the gentle movement of the balloon as it returned to the ground. The fabric folded and shifted in layers of green and terracotta, almost like a painting coming to rest.

Scientific Perspective
The image combines a soft earth-toned palette with a strong but gentle focal form, creating a balance between visual calm and attention. Terracotta and muted greens are often associated with warmth, grounding and natural stability, while the large open areas of sky and desert reduce visual complexity and give the eye space to rest. The rounded shape of the balloon also introduces a softer, more organic visual rhythm against the horizontal landscape.

Energetic Perspective
The earth tones bring a sense of grounding and stability, while the balloon introduces movement, expansion and possibility. Together, the image holds both adventure and calm — the feeling of rising above the familiar while still remaining connected to the earth below.
