BIRDS

Carrapateira, Portugal · January 2020

About the Image
A large flock of birds moved across the sky in constantly changing formations, creating shapes that seemed to appear and disappear from one moment to the next. Much like looking at clouds and suddenly recognising a heart, an animal or an arrow, the eye kept searching for familiar forms in their movement. What fascinated me was this playful, almost acrobatic choreography — spontaneous, coordinated and impossible to repeat in exactly the same way.

Scientific Perspective
Our visual system is naturally drawn to movement, repetition and emerging patterns, especially when familiar forms appear within something constantly changing. The eye and brain instinctively search for order in these shifting shapes, which can make an image like this feel both dynamic and absorbing. The open sky also gives the composition visual space, allowing the movement of the flock to become the main point of attention.

Energetic Perspective
Birds are often associated with freedom, perspective and movement, while a flock introduces a sense of collective rhythm and connection. Their changing formations suggest adaptability and trust — many individual movements becoming one fluid whole.
